Prerequisite
Students should already have met PMI’s requirements put forth in PMP® Credential application and have a solid background and understanding of project management.

Test Taking
- Receive an orientation to the format and content areas of the PMP exam
- Discuss study strategies and techniques for memorization as well as exam taking strategies
- Walk through preparation for writing the exam
- Experience an exam simulation and receive the score you would get if it were the actual exam
- Receive feedback on your performance designed to guide future study
Framework
- Review the foundations of projects as part of a larger business context
- Explore project and product life cycles
- See how the 9 knowledge areas are essential to creating the foundations for success on projects and therefore essential knowledge for the exam
- Study the project culture and stakeholder management
- Go through the organizational structures and how they impact project decision making and the project manager’s power
Project Management Processes
- Define the project processes and their cyclical natures
- Explore the impact of project management maturity
Knowledge Area 1 – Integration
- Review the key roles of the Project manager
- Itemize the tools necessary to keep a project moving forward effectively
Knowledge Area 2 – Scope
- Define what will be produced by the project
- Protect against the project inadvertently changing
- Explore the back bone of the project plan – the Work Breakdown Structure
Knowledge Area 3 – Time
- Walk through the principles of sequencing and networks to produce 4 types of logic diagrams
- Review connector types and their uses
- Calculate the critical path
- Explore three types of scheduling tools and their uses
- Analyze recommended duration compressions techniques as well as cautions for some techniques
Knowledge Area 4 – Cost
- Review the principle concepts of costing and the development of a budget
- Apply the principles of determining financial performance on a project
- Compare different project results to select the most appropriate for the parameters given
- Study the related formulas
- Explore estimating
Knowledge Area 5 – Quality
- Go through Quality Management, Quality Planning, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, and the philosophies of quality based on Deming, Crosby, Taguchi, Juran, ISO, 6 sigma and more
- Itemize and compare the different quality principles
- Review how one captures and analyzes the statistical findings
- Explore the quality tools and their application
Knowledge Area 6 – Human Resources
- Define the key roles and related responsibilities
- Assess the principles of authority, power, and influence as they apply to projects
- Compare the tools and techniques for managing the human component of projects
- Record the steps and the place of decision making, delegating, conflict resolution and many of the management theories that apply to human dynamics in projects
Knowledge Area 7 – Communication
- Explore the types, formats, and principles of communication
- Review the tools and techniques for facilitating good project communication
- Assess the place of stakeholder management and value of document management
Knowledge Area 8 – Risk
- The 5 step process for managing project risks is applied and analyzed
- The tools and techniques are itemized
- Interconnection to other areas such as communication, quality and schedule are explored
Knowledge Area 9 – Procurement
- Walk through identifying the need for procurement through to closing out the contract
- Itemize the contract types, benefits of each, and when to use them
- Explore the extensive lexicon of related terms

- Review the code and analyze its application in order to better understand PMI’s expectation of the Project Management Professionals.
The PMI Perspective
- The Project Management Institute, through programs such as the PMP® designation, search to further the application of project management based on best practices. Here, we review the ‘real world’ versus the ideal application of project concepts and explore their impact on the exam.

This workshop is designed specifically for project managers and project leads who wish to gain their Project Management Professional (PMP®) designation. It is recommended that participants already have completed their application to write the exam prior to attending the workshop.
